Gerontology: An Inside Out Perspective
The Purina Institute is proud to host this year's Companion Animal Nutrition Summit (CAN), from May 3-5, in Charleston, South Carolina, USA
The Summit brings together recognized experts in the veterinary fields, enabling collaborative dialogue, and information exchange around the topic of gerontology.

Why Gerontology?
As pets age into their senior years, biological changes increase their susceptibility to diseases, often resulting in more frequent visits to the veterinary clinic.
For owners who care greatly about maintaining their senior pet's quality of life, this can be the time when they need support and advice from their veterinarian more than ever.
With this in mind, Gerontology is geared towards providing the latest information, with proactive and practical approaches to nutritional problem solving, which is vital when offering the best care for pets and the people that love them.
Indeed, it has never been more relevant, with senior pets now making up 40% of the pet population, and projected to become an even greater percentage of all canine and feline companions.
CAN 2018 aims to equip veterinarians with the knowledge to give pet owners a holistic view of their senior pet's health. By gaining new insights into the role of nutritional interventions in geriatric health, veterinarians can support optimal health and body condition and contribute to every pet's healthy years.
