Changes in the Gut Microbiome and Function Over Lifespan

Speaker:

Jan S. Suchodolski, MedVet, DrVetMed, PhD, AGAF, DACVM

Event date: 24 May 2023 Lausanne, Switzerland

The gut microbiota is a metabolic organ and, like other body organs, it undergoes changes throughout life. During early life, the intestinal microbiota contributes to development and maintenance of proper gut structure and function. The microbiota generally stabilizes during adulthood in healthy animals, but several factors can trigger changes in microbiota composition and function.

In this lecture, Dr. Suchodolski provides an overview of changes in gut microbiota composition across the lifespan of dogs and cats and the impact of those changes on microbiota functions.
