Research in humans shows that use of antibiotics in early life is associated with several health conditions, including chronic inflammatory bowel disease. However, limited data is available about the effects of antibiotic administration during early life on the microbiome of cats.
In this research abstract presentation, Dr. Stavroulaki reviews findings from studies that evaluate the impact of antibiotic treatment on the development and maturation of the gut microbiome of kittens and the association between early-life antibiotics and chronic diarrhea development in adulthood.
