Management of Acute Diarrhea—Implementing the New ENOVAT Guidelines

Speaker:

Melanie Werner, Dr med vet, DECVIM-CA

Event date: 15–16 November 2023 Virtual Event

Diarrhea in dogs is commonly seen in primary care veterinary practices and is frequently treated with antibiotics, especially in cases of hemorrhagic diarrhea—depending, of course, on which country the practice is located.

But is antibiotic therapy really necessary?

A member of the European Network for Optimization of Veterinary Antimicrobial Treatment (ENOVAT) working group responsible for writing animal- and disease-specific treatment guidelines, Dr. Werner shares the ENOVAT approach to assessing, diagnosing, and managing canine patients with acute diarrhea. A review of studies evaluating the effectiveness of antibiotics in treating dogs with acute diarrhea is presented.
