Microbiome analysis in veterinary medicine has primarily focused on the adult dog gut microbiome with only a couple of longitudinal studies investigating the gut microbiome of puppies. In this session, Dr. Xu Wang presents findings from several studies, including the use of whole genome shotgun metagenomics to reveal gut microbiome development and maturation, machine learning to predict chronological age from the gut microbiota, and a natural Salmonella infection to assess microbiome development delays.
