Diagnosis and Clinical Interpretation of Intestinal Dysbiosis

Speaker:

Jan Suchodolski, MedVet, DrVetMed, PhD, AGAF, DACVM

Event date: 15–16 November 2023 Virtual Event

A gut microbiome cannot be separated from its host and vice versa. Equally important, the microbiome cannot be manipulated without understanding other changes in the gut environment.

Dysbiosis can be defined as changes in bacterial populations and microbial function. How can veterinarians in clinical practice assess dysbiosis in their canine and feline patients? And how should the results of a dysbiosis index be interpreted?

In this lecture, Dr. Suchodolski reviews findings from recent studies that illustrate what is known about the effects of broad-spectrum antibiotics and different gastrointestinal conditions on the gut microbiota, as well as how the dysbiosis index reflects shifts in the microbiome.
