Postbiotics is the newest member of the biotics family, which also includes prebiotics, probiotics, and synbiotics. But are the differences between these terms and substances well understood? 

Dr. Kelly Swanson provides the current definition of postbiotics along with information that distinguishes postbiotics from the other biotics. Potential mechanisms of action and benefits of postbiotics will be discussed, followed by a review of existing research on postbiotic use in companion animals.
